Landy Damage

We have been off the radar for a while after our last exciting post. Our container arrived at Kings Shippers where Campbell and I went to go welcome it to South Africa.
Two excited clients (us), Kings representatives and customs officials were shocked with this sight.

It appears that great force was used to make our landy fit into the container. The packers clearly overpacked the container and rather than going to the effort of repacking boxes they thought they could resize our land rover instead. Which they achieved with flying colors.

Here's what we know. The landy was left with our shipping agents in London to be packed into the container with the wheel on the wheel carrier. When we opened the container, the wheel had been removed and placed under the car obviously in an effort to make the car fit. The top prong of the wheel carrier was bent which cracked the back door inwards which shattered the glass. A wooden bulk head separated the landy from the boxes. With the force that had been exerted to make the landy fit, the car was pushed up against the bulk head bending the bull bar back onto the bonnet taking the bumper with it.

We now need to replace the whole back door, the bumper and the bull bar. So we play the waiting game again until insurers approve the quote and the works are done. Campbell and I are becoming proficient at the waiting game.
As much as we love being with family and friends, we are eager to get on the road. South Africa is very expensive with the Soccer World Cup on the horizon.

  3. Sjou guys not cool - you should have shipped with us ;) Just joking - was obviously the packers and not the shipping line :)Your insurance should definitely cover you for all that, suppose it may just take a bit of time. Holding thumbs that you guys can get it all fixed quickly so that you can head on your way... Missing you both and looking forward to following all the progress on the blog. Nix xx

  4. Hey guys,

Just a tearful goodbye as we said farewell to you both last night. Ally please make sure you keep all the posesions on your trip as Thomo managed to forget 2 things behind last night over the course of dinner!!! :)

Was great to see you both before you left and look forward to the first posts from the "real" journey.

Good luck, and we'll see you when you return - or when we all decide to give up our jobs and catch up with you in the middle of Africa.
